On April 2, 2009, Office of Ocean and Polar Affairs Staffer, Dr. Gustavo Bisbal gave a presentation on the diversity of marine life cycles to the second graders at Washington International School. In addition, Dr. Bisbal listed a set of good practices to follow to avoid damages to the ocean environment and to keep marine life cycles healthy. The presentation illustrates the life cycles of seahorses, whales, crabs, corals, anglerfish and many others. It also conveys the dangers of overfishing, plastic disposal, littering, and other insults to the habitat. This is the third consecutive year that Washington International School has invited Dr. Bisbal to give this presentation. The response from the kids, their parents, and teachers is overwhelmingly positive. Everybody has fun in the process. This is just another way to make children aware of their actions and turn them into sensible ocean ambassadors. The art work reflects the kids’ expression of what they saw and learned during the presentation.
