Scavenger Hunt

Participants of the 2004 Take Your Child to Work Day at the State Department tested their skills finding information during a scavenger hunt on this Web site. You can test your skills, too!

Directions:

  1. Read and answer the questions below using the www.future.state.gov site.
  2. Time yourself to see how quickly to can navigate the site to find your answers.
  3. Check the answers from the link below to see how well you did.

Questions:

  1. Go to the "Who We Are" tab and find information on the children of diplomats overseas. What is one the of the five world events that children posted around the globe have experienced and have written about?
  2. Go to the "What's Happening" tab and click on "Special Events." To where did Flat Stanley travel last?
  3. Where would you look if you had a question about the history of the State Department?
  4. Click on the "Where in the World" tab to find maps, information about the diplomatic reception rooms on the 8th floor, and art in U.S. Embassies. What year did the "Art in U.S. Embassies Program" start at the State Department?
  5. Go to the "Why Diplomacy" tab and list the four reasons why diplomacy matters.
  6. Return to the www.future.state.gov home page and go to the "Fun Activities" section. What is Passport Pal's name? (Be sure to come back and play all the games in this section later!)
  7. Return to the www.future.state.gov home page and go to "Addition News" under the "News and Events" section. What events occurred on April 29, 2004?
  8. Go to the "Where in the World" tab and go to the section where you can find maps and country information. What are the six regions that the State Department uses to divide up the world?
  9. In what region would the country of Iraq be located?
  10. Go to the "When in the World" tab and click on the Timeline. What time period was considered the era of "Jeffersonian Diplomacy?"
