Bush Journey (Eucalypt Forest)
One day, some day
I will open my door and start to walk
I will walk until the light gets cooler,
And the air gets quieter
And I feel a carpet of old leaves beneath my feet.
There,
Soft wavery sunlight bathes the world in greens and blues
Ghostly white branches dance to the music the little stream makes as it murmurs to itself,
And the ancient kookaburra overhead laughs at nothing in particular
A tiny beetle vanishes into the sodden gray leaves underfoot.
There,
I will sit high in the branches with the kookaburra
I will stare up through the woven canopy into the brilliant blue sky,
And will taste the stream's cold waters
And feel the gum's damp bark.
There,
A magpie's sudden blurred flight upward will catch my eye
The hard intertwined roots of the silent gum tree will press into my back where I sit,
And I will think for a while
One day, some day.
